NEL Class 2

NEL Class 2 hardware typical installation NEL Class 2 ground station – a containerised uplink and downlink ground station for high-speed or low strength nano-satellite communication links.

These ground stations support 2m, 70cm, L, S and X-band two-way communications with spacecraft.

  • 60cm S-band parabolic
  • 4.5m L/S/X-band parabolic

Data throughput:

  • up to 1Mbps
  • typical 360MB per satellite per day decoded data
  • maximum 8.6GB per day (24 hour utilisation) decoded data

Expected cost:

  • Less than GBP 13000 / EUR 16000 / USD 20000


  • 4 x soft radio and/or
  • 2 x ICOM 910H
  • 2 x Yaesu FT817-ND


  • scheduler
  • baseband store and forward client
  • soft terminal node controller client
  • GENSO GSS client


  • Sufficient to provide at least 3 hours a day contact with a 700km low earth orbit spacecraft or 12 hours a day contact with a lunar mission
  • At least three distributed 120 degrees around the globe
